The series model of the DB2 was shown for the first time at the New York Auto Show in April 1950. Although there was considerable demand, cars 2 to 4 were reserved to compete in the 24 hours race at Le Mans in 1950. The exhibited was intenede to compete in the Mille Miglia before racing in the legendary Le Mans but unfortunately it had an accident on a French country road and therefore had to make its racing debut on French rather than Italian soil. The cars yook th e fist place and were entered for the race again in 1951. The success brought fame to the rising star and encouraged the management to build vehicles specially designed for racing. During the first half of the 1950s, the car competed in further races, including the Mille Miglia with Stirling Moss at the wheel and in goodwood driven byt Major Tony Rolt. From 1966 until 1979, the car was exhibited at Le Mans Museum.
