Citroën DS3 WRC 2011
Representing CITROËN in next year’s World Rally Championship (WRC), the CITROËN DS3 WRC conforms to the new rules set down by the FIA. The aggressive and dynamic lines of this “little sportster” symbolise the efforts of CITROËN RACING’s engineers to push performance to the limit during its development.
Restating its continuing commitment to the World Rally Championship (WRC), CITROËN RACING has developed an all-new car to replace the C4 WRC for the 2011 season. Packed with Créative Technologie, the CITROËN DS3 WRC conforms to the new rules set down by the FIA.
More compact than its predecessor, the CITROËN DS3 WRC boasts the same powerful lines as the production-line vehicle, emphasized by the cooling vents and aerodynamic parts designed to improve roadholding at high speeds. Under the bonnet, the 300-hp 1.6-litre direct-injection turbocharged engine was conceived from start to finish by CITROËN RACING. The four-wheel-drive transmission incorporates a six-gear sequential gearbox and front and rear mechanical differentials.
Designed to limit the budgets required to compete in the WRC, the new rules ban costly materials such as titanium and carbon fibre, standardise certain parts like the turbocharger and limit the changes that can be made to the vehicle during its lifetime. Rally nevertheless remains a great testing ground driving new advances in vehicle technology.
After five Manufacturer’s World Champion titles and six Driver & Co-driver titles with Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena, CITROËN is out to extend its string of titles with the DS3 WRC. Two teams—Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena and Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia—have already been confirmed for WRC 2011, which will start on 10 February in Sweden.
