The machines are further modified to make them lighter by changing from four-wheel-drive to rear-wheel drive. SUPER GT cars are divided into two classes according to how much power is generated by their engines. In the GT 500 class engines produce up to 500 hp, and apart from Nissan other entrants include production teams from carmakers such as Toyota and Honda. GT300 class cars generate up to 300 hp and include private teams running cars such as the Nissan Fairlady Z, Toyota Corolla, Porsche, Ferrari and Vemac.
For the 2009 season, the Nissan NISMO GT-R SUPER GT 500 has been refined including boosting engine capacity and power and reducing weight by more than 500 kg through dismantling passenger seat and air-conditioning.
