Peugeot 402 Darl’Mat Roadster 1940

Peugeot dealer since 1923, Emile Darl’Mat wanted to produce « an uncommon car with the reliability and easy upkeep of a standard model ».

104 Peugeot 302 and 402 Darl’Mat are built with the agreement of Peugeot (52 roadsters, 32 convertibles, 20 coupés) from 1937 to 1939. These Darl’Mat uses Peugeot chassis from the 302 or the light 402. In both case, its is propelled by the 402 engine, 4 cylinders head valves, 1991 cm3 with a HP brought from 55 to 70 allowingto reach easily 140 km/h. The gearbox may be a classic 3 speeds or an electromagnetic Cotal 4 speeds.

The Peugeot 402 Darl’Mat Roadster 1940 designed by Georges Paulin were built by coachwork Marcel Poutout whch was previously remarked for the Peugeot Eclipse based on chassis of the 601
In 1937 and 1938, 302 and 402 Darl’Mat raced at 24 Hours Le Mans. They also participate in many Concours d’Elegance.

This specific model received a Cotal gearbox and was completely restored ( from the wooden framework to smaller details) by its actual owner.
