            Geneva, March 2015 -
The 2015 Geneva Motor Show was the occasion of the unveiling of exotic high performance cars and concept cars aside from a large number of new generation production models. In propulsion systems the electric drive solution is gradually gaining ground in alternatives at different levels with the aim to optimize performance or average fuel consumption. Just look at the new Koenigsegg Regera with three electric motors and one 1099 hp internal combustion engine giving a combined output of 1500 hp and over 2000 Nm torque. That would be for performance optimization. The Volkswagen Sport Coupe GTE Concept, on the other hand, with its V6 STI engine, two electric motors and externally chargeable battery will rather go in the average fuel consumption optimization class with a claimed 2.0 litre per 100 km combined fuel requirement. Both solutions are plug-in-hybrid vehicles and are able of zero-emission driving for limited runs. We are introducing here in alphabetic order a wide selection of automobiles exhibited at Geneva Palexpo.

The Geneva Motor Show was the place for the world premiere of the third generation Ford Focus RS. It is an all-wheel-drive Ford Focus powered by a 2.3 Litre EcoBoost engine producing 316 hp.
The All-wheel-drive transmission comes with Dynamic Torque Vectoring system.
“The all-new Focus RS is a serious machine with high-performance technology and innovative engineering that sets new benchmarks for driving exhilaration on the road and track,” said Raj Nair, group vice president, Global Product Development, Ford Motor Company.
“The RS line has a proud history of technical breakthroughs that have migrated to mainstream Fords to benefit all of our customers, and the new Focus RS is no exception. It’s a great example of our passion for innovation through performance and creating vehicles that make people’s hearts pound.”
The Focus RS is the latest vehicle to be unveiled as part of a new era of Ford performance that will bring to customers globally more than 12 performance vehicles through 2020. In addition to pleasing enthusiasts, these vehicles help deliver the company’s One Ford plan for profitable growth, product excellence and innovation in every part of its business.
Developed by a small team of Ford Performance engineers in Europe and US, the new Focus RS is the third generation of Focus RS cars, following models launched in 2002 and 2009. It will be the 30th car to wear the legendary RS badge, following such technology trendsetters as the 16-valve 1970 Escort RS1600, the turbocharged Sierra RS Cosworth of 1985 with its radical aerodynamics, and the four-wheel-drive 1992 Escort RS Cosworth.

For the 85th edition of the Geneva International Motor Show, Italdesign Giugiaro presents the world début of GEA, the future of luxury mobility.

GEA’s vision is based on the “Piloted Driving” technology outlook for the future: technological advancement, which allows cars to drive increasingly autonomously, will call in the future for a new idea of automobile.  The conceptual center of gravity shifts ideally from the driver's seat, around which the car's architectural and ergonomic philosophy is usually developed, to the passengers in the rear seats. Once the car drives autonomously through city traffic, on the motorway and in all those situations when driving is simply not a pleasure, it allows the occupants to focus on other tasks or interests.
“In the near future, the real luxury will be time,” comments Wolfgang Egger, Head of Styling Area of Italdesign Giugiaro. “When designing GEA we thought of the businessmen and businesswomen of tomorrow: the time spent travelling will become productive even in a car. With the three internal setting configurations, which can be selected on the control sphere situated between the two front seats, the car can turn into a travelling office, a wellness or a dream area. This is our vision of luxury mobility for the future”.
GEA doesn't sacrifice sports performance levels, guaranteed by a power train which, thanks to the four electric motors fitted on the differentials, develops 570 kW of power and affords a top speed of 250 km/h..
With its generous proportions – 5.37 meters long, a wheelbase of 3.33 meters, 1.98 m wide and 1.46 meters high – GEA joins the luxury saloon segment.

After a five year wait, 2015 sees the arrival of the world’s most keenly anticipated hot hatch, the Honda Civic Type R. Billed as a ‘race car for the road’, the all-new Civic Type R will set new standards in the high-performance front-wheel drive hatchback segment.
At the heart of the Civic Type R is an all-new, direct-injected turbocharged 2.0 litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine, which delivers power, torque and performance figures unmatched in the front-wheel drive hot hatch segment. Peak power output is 310 PS* at 6,500 rpm, and peak torque is 400 Nm* at 2,500 rpm – both higher than for any previous Honda Type R model.

Red-lining at 7,000 rpm, the engine – part of Honda’s next-generation Earth Dreams Technology series – features an advanced new turbocharger with VTEC technology that boosts low-end torque and delivers sustained acceleration.

The Civic Type R’s blistering performance is unmatched in the front-wheel drive hot hatch segment: the 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint is covered in just 5.7 seconds* – making it the fastest accelerating performance front-wheel drive hatchback – and top speed, where permitted, is a class-leading 270 km/h (167 mph)*.

The new engine is mated to a slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission, safeguarding an intimate, rewarding connection with the drivetrain, and power is directed through the front wheels.

With increased power, lower weight, improved aerodynamics and innovative technologies the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce is the most pure incarnation of a Lamborghini to date: unmistakable Lamborghini super sports car DNA, dynamic superiority and exceptional driving precision. A focus on weight reduction while incorporating innovative technologies has resulted in the most sports-oriented, fastest and most emotional series production Lamborghini ever. The weight has been further reduced by 50 kg through enhanced lightweight engineering including significant use of carbon fiber. The naturally aspirated V12 engine's power is increased to 552 kW/750 hp. This results in a power-to-weight-ratio of 2,03 kg/hp. The Superveloce accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds and powers on to reach a top speed of more than 350 km/h (more than 217 mph)....

The Geneva motor show hosts the first European appearance of the Lexus LF-C2 concept, a 2+2 roadster design that captures the key themes in a strong future style direction for Lexus. As a grand touring study, it takes its inspiration from Lexus’s passion for driving.

The concept is derived from a pure and simple sports coupe idea, with a highly styled 2+2 layout. Designed to give driver and passenger the best top-down driving experience, it has no roof or cabin covering of any kind.

The golden yellow exterior styling was influenced by the way surface shapes interact with different type of light. The designers created edges, planes and curves that allow LF-C2 to project a different character when seen from different angles and in different lighting conditions. This approach, combined a layered paint process, results in a striking appearance and a progressive interpretation of an open-top luxury GT.

Yasuo Kajino, LF-C2’s Chief Designer, said: We’ve been instinctively drawn to and inspired by those things that capture the beauty of light. When you put something in the right light, people see it in a way they never have before.”

The new Lexus LF-SA concept made its world debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show.

Last year marked the 25th anniversary of the very first Lexus, the LS400 saloon. To celebrate this milestone, Lexus challenged ED2, its European design studio, to create a concept of an ultra-compact (sub-B-segment) urban 2+2 model.
The Lexus designers were able to keep the LF-SA Concept’s exterior dimensions down to a neat 3,400mm long, 1,700mm wide and 1,430mm high, the kind of compact packaging that is essential for genuine city car manoeuvrability and agility.

Despite its very compact exterior dimensions, the LF-SA Concept has a surprisingly spacious interior. Key to this quality is the designers’ “manipulation of lightness”, witnessed, for instance, in the sweeping dashboard, which reinforces the width of the cabin.

It is common for city vehicles only to carry one person most of the time, and the 2+2 cabin layout gives clear priority to the driver. The driver’s seat is fixed and the steering wheel and pedals are adjustable, bringing the vehicle to the driver rather than vice-versa.
The front passenger seat, however, is slide-adjustable to allow access to the rear.

The sprint from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes just 2.9 seconds, with controlled torque delivery ensuring optimised traction off the line. The track-dedicated 1000PS McLaren P1™ GTR will debut at the 85th International Geneva Motor Show in limited production form with only minor modifications to the Design Concept presented just six months ago. The most noticeable change is the livery that the Geneva show car will be sporting. It is one which will be available to the fortunate few who will be joining the McLaren P1™ GTR Driver Programme that kicks off at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain later this year. The design is homage to the yellow and green McLaren F1 GTR, chassis #06R, which has claimed its own place in history as one of the five F1 GTRs that dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the historic debut by McLaren 20 years ago.

The new Mercedes-Maybach  S600 Pullman guarantees the very finest on-board accommodation. “The second model from Mercedes-Maybach takes over the role at the absolute pinnacle – as a state limousine with a classic face-to-face seat configuration in the rear,” said Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales. “The length of 6.50 metres and the wheelbase of 4.42 metres deliver an incredibly spacious interior and first-class comfort. It goes without saying that the new Mercedes-Maybach Pullman also embodies the very best in exclusivity.” This is further enhanced by the uncompromising sound quality and perfect musical enjoyment supplied by the exclusive Burmester® High-End 3D Surround-Sound system – the most expensive surround-sound system in an automobile.
With a length of 6499 mm, the Pullman is another 1053 mm longer than the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The wheelbase is an impressive 4418 mm. Furthermore, at 1598 mm in height, the Pullman is more than 100 mm higher than a Mercedes S-Class, resulting in a tangible increase in headroom.
The V12 biturbo engine in the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Pullman has an output of 390 kW (530 hp). It has a displacement of 5980 cc and maximum torque of 830 Nm from 1900 rpm.

The name Pullman was originally applied to railway carriages with luxurious open-plan compartments manufactured by the American Pullman Palace Car Company. This name was soon also applied to the motor cars from Mercedes-Benz which were based on an extremely long wheelbase and offered a very generously-sized passenger compartment. In the rear, separated from the driver's area by a partition, there was space for four passengers to recline regally in four single seats facing each other.

Unveiled at the Geneva Show, the Sway is a glimpse at how a future generation of compact Nissan models might look if the company's striking new design language was applied to a European hatchback. It is a concept car designed especially to appeal to European tastes: it is seen as emotional, edgy and exciting.
The Nissan Sway has been designed to shake up the compact hatchback segment, traditionally a conservative sector of the market. With its swooping lines, striking nose, elegantly simple interior and bold use of sophisticated colours, the concept is a daring and emotional design.
There is an overall sense of unity and harmony... but with edginess unexpected in this market segment. The interior, for example, applies techniques more usually seen in industrial architecture such as structural aluminium elements to signify both simplicity and strength, but also the attention to detail and use of colour and materials associated with premium goods.
The exterior, meanwhile, blends four highly distinctive elements - the V-motion grille, floating roof, boomerang lamps and kicked-up C-pillar - to shape a new design signature that has already been seen on the Nissan Lannia Concept that was presented last year in Beijing at Auto China 2014, as well as the new Murano recently launched in the US. The Sway represents the first time this new design language has been expressed on a compact hatchback, while future Nissan models in different market segments in all regions will follow this styling direction.

Pininfarina is 85 years old and it starts the celebrations for this important milestone at the Geneva Motor Show by holding on its stand the world preview of one of the six units of the Ferrari Sergio, limited edition roadster that enhances the spirit and core values of Pininfarina in the 60th anniversary year of its collaboration with the Prancing Horse.
So 85 years have gone by since that day, May 22, 1930, when Battista “Pinin” Farina (the surname was changed from Farina to Pininfarina in 1961 by Presidential decree) founded Società Anonima Carrozzeria Pinin Farina in Turin, a small artisan workshop that turned out small production runs and special bodywork to order for wealthy private clients. Today Pininfarina, the standard bearer for the aesthetic values of Italian design in the world, focuses on design (automotive and non-automotive), engineering services, design and construction of very small runs and unique cars, the so-called Fuoriserie (custom-built) vehicles.
Right in the vein of Fuoriserie fits the Ferrari Sergio. Born as a concept car to celebrate Senator Sergio Pininfarina and launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013, the Sergio has become a reality.
“I am proud – says Chairman Paolo Pininfarina – to celebrate the milestone of 85 years presenting the Ferrari Sergio. It's an exclusive car that embodies the excellence of Pininfarina in designing and manufacturing high quality cars and it’s a further exercise on the Ferrari brand, to which we are related by a history that has helped define the most beautiful cars of all time. But, above all, it’s a dream come true: conceived as a tribute to my Father, Sergio is now a real Fuoriserie running on the streets of the world".
Designed by Pininfarina, just six of this incredibly limited edition roadster are being built, each with a different color and interior configuration. Based on the 458 Spider, it’s an authentic open-top, it explicitly references the track, underscoring and intensifying its sense of sportiness, fun behind the wheel and the pleasure of design at its purest.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS, launched at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, once again blurs the boundary between road-going sports cars and race cars. It is equipped with the maximum degree of motorsport technology currently possible in a street-legal 911, yet retains supreme suitability for everyday driving. The 911 GT3 RS is powered by a four-litre six-cylinder engine with 500 hp (368 kW) of power and 460 Newton metres of torque, combined with a specially developed PDK transmission.
Extensive modifications to the drive system, aerodynamics and lightweight design enhance performance beyond that of even the 911 GT3. Indeed, the RS has set a lap time around the 14 mile Nürburgring Nordschleife of 7 min 20 secs; an achievement which also trumps the historic record value of the Carrera GT super sports car of just under 7 min and 29 secs. As a consequence, this clearly qualifies the 911 GT3 RS as the benchmark in its class – directly at its launch.

The new entry-level car of the Porsche GT family is the Cayman GT4. The engine and chassis, brakes and aerodynamics of the Cayman GT4 were engineered for maximum driving dynamics, yet this new top model preserves the typical versatility and everyday utility of a two-seat Porsche coupe.

It is powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six engine with 385 hp (283 kW), which was derived from the 911 Carrera S engine. Its power is handled by a six-speed manual transmission with dynamic transmission mounts. This combination lets the Cayman GT4 accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and attain a top speed of 295 km/h. The car's combined NEDC fuel consumption is 10.3 l/100 km. The chassis, with its 30 mm lower ride height and generously sized brake system, consists largely of components from the 911 GT3.

                - Qoros 3 City SUV 1.6T |

Chinese car brand, Qoros, made an impact at the 85th Annual Geneva Motor Show. New Chief Executive Officer Phil Murtaugh announced the brand’s plans for 2015, and presented the international premiere of the Qoros 3 City SUV and QorosQloud 2.0 – its ground-breaking connected services platform.
During his first public appearance in his new role, Murtaugh explained how he will help to lead Qoros into a new phase of its development.
“I feel very fortunate to be able to join Qoros to help to steer it from a start-up company to a fully-fledged sales and manufacturing operation.
“Building a new brand from scratch is a huge challenge. We are the first Chinese auto company that meets or exceeds the performance and quality standards of leading global manufacturers,” continued Murtaugh. “We are changing the perception of Chinese cars. ‘Made in China’ is gradually shifting to ‘Created in China’.”
With a bold evolution of the distinctive Qoros signature design language, the modern styling and flexibility of the City SUV is exemplified by its increased ground clearance, large wheels, and more commanding driving position.
The new City SUV will be available with the brand’s 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine as standard.
The European-developed turbocharged 1.6-litre 16-valve VVT (variable valve timing) engine suits the extra flexibility required for city and country driving. The engine produces 115 kW (156 bhp) power and 210 Nm torque over a broad rev range between 1,750 and 5,000 rpm.
As standard, this engine is paired with the six-speed manual transmission in the Active model, accelerating the City SUV from zero to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds. Also with six speeds, the smooth shifting QorosTroniq™ 6DCT transmission is standard on Style, Style Plus and Excite models. With this gearbox, acceleration to 100 km/h is achieved in 10.8 seconds and top speed is 208 km/h.
Fuel economy is amongst the very best in the compact class, achieving 6.8 l/100km with the manual transmission and 6.9 l/100km with the DCT (NEDC cycle).

                - Rolls Royce Phantom Serenity Extended Wheelbase Limousine |

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has brought Serenity to this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, unveiling the new standard in authentic, bespoke luxury motoring to the world’s media.
“Having revisited the history of the amazing interiors of the elite Rolls-Royce’s of the early 1900’s, we felt inspired to share this heritage with our new customers in a very contemporary way,” comments Giles Taylor, Director of Design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
The choice of Phantom for this project was obvious, but creating the motif that would define this most opulent and modern of automotive interiors would require considerable new expertise.
Cherica Haye and Michelle Lusby, both Textile Arts graduates from the Royal College of Art and Plymouth University respectively, joined Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke Design department to help realise the direction of the core motif for this magnificent one-off Phantom.
“Some of the most opulent silk motifs come to us from the Orient, where imperial families’ and rich merchants’ robes were made from the finest silk materials,” comments Lusby.
“The rear compartment of a Phantom is the most tranquil, beautiful place to be, a place where time and the outside world simply slip past,” says Haye. “This tranquillity made us think of the Oriental tradition where Emperors would take to their private gardens to reflect in solitude under the blossom trees. The blossom motif is one that is cherished in Far Eastern culture and has been beautifully applied to Royal robe design over the centuries. We felt it was the perfect representation of tranquillity and serenity for a beautiful modern interior from Rolls-Royce.”

Suzuki Motor Corporation unveils its world-premiere concept model, the iM-4, at the 85th Geneva Motor Show. Since releasing the LJ series in 1970, Suzuki has been constantly coming up with new ideas in the compact SUV and crossover categories with models such as the first Vitara in 1988 and SX4 in 2006. The iM-4 is Suzuki vision for a new compact 4x4 that embodies that DNA while bristling with the latest technology. Its innovativeness, uniqueness and Suzuki’s DNA make it the iconic mini 4x4.
The SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki), Suzuki’s new mild hybrid system incorporating an ISG (integrated starter generator), provides engine power assistance using the motor and achieves efficient power regeneration. The SHVS system used for the iM-4 also features lithium-ion batteries. Coupled with a newly-developed high-efficiency ISG, this regenerative braking system is the perfect hybrid system for a compact car. As well as improving fuel efficiency, it also keeps down the size, weight, and cost.
At the 85th Geneva Motor Show, Suzuki Motor Corporation also revealed its new compact hatchback concept car, the iK-2. The iK-2, the smartest compact car, offers all the elements expected in a car of this size. Suzuki is well known as the compact car expert, having built up unrivalled know-how in developing compact cars from the Suzulight in the 1950s and the Alto in the 1970s, to our latest model line-up. In the iK-2 Suzuki takes the ideal of the compact car to a new level. The Liquid Flow design expresses the energetic movement of liquid, giving the car a classy, elegant, yet dynamic look. The model is built around a new-generation platform and comes equipped with the BOOSTERJET engine, a new direct-injection turbo petrol unit. By adding the production model based on this concept car to the line-up, Suzuki will give drivers a much greater value of a compact car in which Suzuki excels. The production model will also be available with SHVS mild hybrid system and is to be released in Europe in early 2016.

Thanks to a V6 TSI engine, the 279 kW / 380 PS GTE plug-in hybrid delivers the long-distance properties of a Grand Tourismo while enabling zero-emission driving – thanks to the deployment of two electric motors and an externally chargeable battery. The concept car, with a top speed of 250 km/h, has an average combined fuel consumption of 2.0 l/100km
