The Cobra Daytona GT is a story by itself. Aerodynamic laws show that a powerful roadster can not match an equivalent coupe at high speed on long straights. Carrol Shelby required Pete Brooks, with previous experience accumulated at GM Design Center , to design a closed body for its successful roadster so it could compete with the Ferrari last completed 250 GTO . Sketches were hardly maken; the car was really designed in “cut and try” fashion. The first appearance in racing event was at Daytona 24 Hours in 1964 , hence the name of the car. The result was convincing with GT class win at 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964 and Worldwide GT Championship in 1965.
