Ferrari F50 1995 1997
The Ferrari F50 was introduced at the 1995 63rd Geneva Motor Show by Luca di Montezemolo in the presence of Niki Lauda for the 50th Anniversary of the Company . It followed the Ferrari F40 propelled by a turbo V8 . The Ferrari F50 was proposed with a 520 hp 4,698cc V12 with Bosch Motronic 2.7 engine management. The transmission included a six-speed manual gearbox. There was a four-wheel independant suspension with coil springs and unequal lenght wishbones and four wheel hydraulic disc brakes.
Piero Lardi Ferrari and Sergio Pininfarina removed the car cover at the Geneva Motor Show to present officially the Pininfarina styled new car to the world.
The project that gave birth to the F50, heir to the F40, was grandiose in all aspects and represented the most advanced meeting point between cars for road and track use. There were many analogies with the Prancing Horse's Formula One cars, including a monocoque in carbon fibre, the engine group and transmission located at the rear and also playing a load-carrying role, the lower area of the car developed to exploit ground effect to the full, the body made entirely of composite materials and its performance.
Using technology derived from Ferrari’s Formula 1 V-12, the new, naturally aspirated 4.7-liter engine featured a 65-degree angle between the two cylinder banks and four overhead camshafts with three intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder. Its compression ratio was 11.3:1.Powered by a V12 engine that put out 520 hp at 8,500 rpm, the F50 had a top speed of 325 kph and could accelerate from zero to 100 kph in just 3,87 seconds.
Only 349 examples of the F50 were produced compared with the 1,337 F40 built. The F40 had some activities on the track while the F50 never participated in racing events.
