From the beginning the Renault brothers understood that competition was the best promotion tool for their company. They started with the city to city races in "voiturettes" (small cars) category, winning in several events.
The Paris Vienne race was for the Renault brothers a challenge to move to a higher category. Four small Renault Type K were engaged, facing high competition from larger Mercedes from count Zborowski and Panhard from Henry Farman. While crossing the Alps, through winds at 1.500 metres, the lightness of the Renault Type K could show superiority and ended up winning the competition.
