The Mk IV is the last contender by Ford in the historic fight between Ford and Ferrari. It is the ultimate development of the 7,0 liter Ford MkII that won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1966.
Intensive wind tunnel development and testing of prototype J resulted in this sophisticated body shape ready for another victory. 4 Ford Mk IV were entered for Le Mans competition in 1967 together with several Mk II and GT 40. All Mk IV had a different colour. The red one with Number one won the race with Dan Gurney and A. J. Foyt at the wheel.
This car had a monocoque structure with aluminium honeycomb elements which allowed overall weight of 1080 kg without fluids or 30 kg lighter than the Mk II.
