Mazda Kabura Concept 2006
The Mazda Kabura concept was created by Mazda Design Center at Irvine in California.
The Mazda Kabura concept represents a compact sports coupe with front engine and rearwheel drive just like the Mazda MX5 and the Mazda RX8. It is propelled by a 2,0 litre four cylinder engine.
The name Kabura comes from a Japanese term designating the first arrow into a war
The originality of the Kabura concept is an assymetric interior lay out with three full size seats and a complementary seat behind the driver. It is a 3+1 interior rather than conventional 2+2 of sports coupe. The glovebox have been removed from the instrument panel in order to increase space on the passenger side. There is also a third centre opening door on the passenger side for better access. All passenger seats fold flat to make way for snowboard, shopping bags and all the tools of an active lifeThe windshield and forward portion of the roof are integrated into one seamless glass surface. the driver can twist a knob on bright days to change the roof’s opacity, as desired, from clear to completely opaque.
The Kabura has a two piece rear hatch opening made of glass. The upper third of this glass panel pivots up and open. This not only creates a roof spoiler, it also vents air from the interior and augments rear passenger headroom. In addition, a photovoltaic solar cell in the panel helps to control the interior temperature as well as recharge the battery.
