Porsche 804 Formula One 1962
Porsche used an 8 cylinder engine for the first time in 1962. The Formula One series regulations had moved to 1.500 cc engine capacity. Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the grand son of Porsche founder, was manager of the auto design studio. Under his direction, the Formula 1 type 804 racing car was developed. A new air cooled 1.494 cc flat 8 engine with four camshaft was developed for this purpose. It produced 180 hp. Total weight of the car is 455 kg. |

Dan Gurney won the 1962 French Grand Prix in Rouen on June 8th with this car (black and white picture). The car N°30 in color pictures was is Chassis-804602 and was driven by Jo Bonnier, finishing 2nd in the 1962 Solitude Grand Prix and 6th in the Italian Grand Prix.
