Cernobbion Italy May 2013.The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2013 brought together some rare and unique cars from widely varying eras in automotive history. In addition, six concept vehicles and prototypes went on show, each representing their own distinctive perspective on forward-thinking automotive design. This link between traditional and future-focused aesthetics in vehicle construction once again defined the character of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este as a fascinating stage for historical highlights and visions of future mobility. The Concorso d’Eleganza is held in Villa d’Este before a second public session in Villa Erba property. The backdrop and atmosphere of Lake Como, coupled with the exquisite line-up of vehicles and the enthusiasm of the spectators, ensure that the Days of Elegance in Cernobbio was without parallel. “The competition entrants and the special exhibitions at this year’s event have taken it to a quite extraordinary level,” explained Dr. Ralf Rodepeter, Director of the BMW Museum and member of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2013 Selecting Committee. “We’re therefore delighted that more than 6,000 visitors came along to experience the event on the Sunday alone.” The jury awarded the Trofeo BMW Group for “best of show” to the Bugatti 57SC Atlantic from 1938 presented by Ralph Laureen (USA). This car also won the Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este prize decided by public referendum. The historic cars were divided into nine Classes. Each Class has its winner and mention of honours selected vehicles. We are showing below award winners together with some other participant’s entries. The 1928 Mercedes 680S Torpedo roadster Saoutchik of Paul Andrews (USA) won Class A award after having collected 2012 Pebble Beach award. The Concorso d'Eleganza Design Award for Concept Cars & Prototypes by the Public Referendum at Villa Erba was granted to the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Coupé 2013 by Touring Superleggera.
Some unique automobiles appeared like the 1964 Pinin Farina Ferrari 250 LM that was the prototype for the successful Ferrari 250 LM production model. The 1963 Lamborghini 350 GTV was the first ever Lamborghini, a prototype presented at 1963 Turin Motor Show. The 1963 Lamborghini 350 GTV was indeed part of a collection of Lamborghini celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Company at Villa d’Este. There was also a collection of Aston Martin gathered to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the British Enterprise with the specially prepared Centenary edition Aston Martin CC100 prototype. It was also unique surprise to see a 1936 Mercedes 500 K Spezial Roadster side by side with its sister model 1937 540 K Sindelfingen Cabriolet. Zagato, at the same time, introduced a Stradale version of its 2011 Alfa Romeo TZ3. Nissan came to Villa d’Este with a prototype of its Infiniti Emerg-E while Pinin Farina showed its Ferrari Sergio barchetta
Away from the competition, the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este also provided the setting for the world premiere of the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé .
2013 RM Auction at Villa ELBA lined an important series of exclusive cars among which a large collection of unique Ferraris. The highest bid went to a 1953 Ferrari 340/375 MM Competizione Pinin Farina with Euros 9.856.000.A 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Coupe Aerodynamico Pininfarina reached Euros 2.184.000. A Ferrari 275 GTS was sold for Euros 1.120.000, while a 1962 Mercedes 300 SL Roadster collected Euros 1.114.000. A 2004 Ferrari Enzo went for Euros 1.069.600 , when a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO reached Euros 963.200. A 2010 Ferrari 599XX was exchanged for Euros 918.400. A 1997 Ferrari F50 went for Euros 560.000 compared to Euros 470.000 for a 1989 Ferrari F40 or Euros 425.600 for a 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400. The 1957 BMW 503 Cabriolet Bertone illustrated obtained a high bid of Euros 240.000 below reserve when a 1993 Jaguar XJ 220 was sold for Euros 151.200. These are just a few examples.
